Dandelion infused oil can be a beneficial addition to skincare routines due to its potential anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and moisturizing properties.
Preparing to unleash the power of dandelions
So you have collected your Dandelion flowers and want to infuse all their natural goodness into your chosen oil. I have listed a step by step guide on how we do it and the reasons why.
Firstly spread the picked flowers out on a cloth in the open and leave for 2 to 3 hours.
This will allow any insects still on the flower enough time to move on before we start the
process of infusing in oil.
Dandelion infused oil can be a safe and effective for topical applications, but it's essential to be mindful of the moisture content of flowers can lead to microbial growth in the oil, causing it to spoil faster or even become unsafe for use.
How do you safely unleash the power of dandelions - by drying the flowers to remove excess moisture, reducing the risk of spoilage and extending the shelf life of the infused oil. Mold and bacteria thrive in moist environments, so drying the flowers is a must to prevent these issues. Air-drying the flowers will concentrate all their natural goodness, resulting in a more potent infused oil. Drying flowers can take time but we use a commercial food dehydrator & dryer with 6 Shelves and 48 Hour Timer. Drying will take 3 to 4 hours depending on the size and quantity of flowers in the machine. It is always best to do a hand check to ensure they are completely dry before infusing them into the oil to avoid any moisture related issues.
1 - Quality Dandelions ONLY.
Be aware of any growing near agricultural areas may be exposed to pesticides.
Those growing on road verges may have other environmental contaminants.
2 - Eliminate Moisture
Thoroughly dry the flowers before infusion to reduce moisture content.
3 - Clean, Clean, Clean
Use clean, sterilized equipment and containers to prevent contamination.
4 - Remember use by date
Use infused oils within a reasonable time frame and discard if they show any signs of spoilage.
